Why We Help

One in three women are victims of abuse. Domestic violence can affect any woman: a teacher, a friend, a co-worker, a mother, an aunt, a grandmother, a sister, a total stranger. As long as one woman is blindfolded by abuse, it is our Members’ purpose to raise awareness of it--and it will be our ultimate joy to end all violence against women!

How You Can Help, Too

We love wearing our LBDs to show our Membership and pride, but we never hesitate to roll up our sleeves and jump right into the work that needs to be done. It is through your dedication to our cause that we can provide help for abused women.

Volunteer

One of the easiest ways to make a difference quickly is to volunteer at a local women’s shelter. These organizations are chronically underfunded and understaffed, so any amount of time Members spend helping out will be appreciated. Members can volunteer to help clean and organize rooms and supplies, read to children, do yard work, or a myriad of other things. Contact a local shelter by phone to see where you are needed. 

Donate Clothing/Toiletries

Shelters often have these needs as well, along with items like toys and diapers. Contact your local shelter  for a list of needed items.

Program Development

You may want to put on a conference/meeting/event involving other local Societies and collectively reach out and give back in your community. Perhaps a Member in your Society is a certified Life Coach or a Mary Kay Consultant. A class on self-esteem followed by free makeovers would be a great way for your Society to help women.

Mission Trips/Volunteer Vacations

There are lots of opportunities to impact women’s lives across the globe, whether it is in your local community, city, state or country. Check with you local church, synagogue or relief agency for ideas.

Fundraising and Donation

As a Member of the Little Black Dress Society, is it your privilege to be able to contribute to your chosen organization--and you can have fun while doing so! It doesn’t have to be a huge to-do--keep it simple, sweetie! It can be as simple as getting your closest friends together for a potluck dinner and a bottle of wine; pass a hat, collect some funds, and your Society will experience the joyful feelings that giving back brings you!
