Statistics on Abuse

Where can I get statistics on abuse?

Statistics on abuse and domestic violence are available on the National Domestic Violence Hotline website, and can be found online through a simple search engine.

Unfortunately, much of this information was compiled and studied prior to 2006--almost five years later, the statistics have likely changed.

In 2009, the National Network to End Domestic Violence conducted a 24-hour census of domestic violence shelters and services. Thousands of pieces of data on the statistics of abuse were collected, and are presented here in PDF format. These are likely the most current statistics available, and they present a bleak picture of domestic abuse in the United States.

But this information also shows that there are thousands of people--including volunteers--who are fighting to erase abuse. Join them and become a part of the movement to end violence against women!
