What is a Dressmaker?
“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”
Starting your own Society gives you the privilege of being called a Little Black Dress Society “Dressmaker”! We believe that a Dressmaker is held in the highest esteem because she believes and supports our mission of ending the abuse of women and has a desire to help the Society grow globally.
The Dressmaker application process is currently being restructured. Applications will be re-opened in March, 2012.
What Does It Take to Be a Dressmaker?
We at the Little Black Dress Society depend upon Dressmakers to be excellent and creative leading ladies. You get to name your own Society, register it with the Little Black Dress Society, Inc., and invite your friends, family and coworkers to join you on the journey to ending domestic violence.

Women need to know that they are loved. They need to know that they are not junk. They need to know that they are not doormats to be stepped on and battered and bruised physically or emotionally! This is our journey, but we don’t want to make it alone. If you are passionate about impacting women's lives touched by abuse, we want to hear from you! We need you! There are so many women out there hurting, feeling ashamed and embarrassed, hiding behind a blindfold of hopelessness and pain, and they need you!
Every woman has a story--they just don’t always get a chance to share it. Here is your opportunity to have fun, make friends, and help those stories be told by starting your own Society!
Starting a Society
All you have to do to get started is sign up to be a Dressmaker. At that time you will be given the opportunity to give your Society its own unique name. Feel free to be creative and fun!
Soon after you register you will receive an email from LBD Society Founder Amanda Graybill. This email will contain lots of helpful information, including whether or not your Society name has been approved.
When you invite your friends to join you in the Little Black Dress Society, you can encourage them to join your new Society by filling out the Request a Society form. There are only a few requirements for Membership:
- All Members must be female
- All Members must be at least 18 years old
- All Members must pay all dues and fees associated with Membership
- All Members must wear their LBDs at all events where they are representing the Little Black Dress Society
Societies are not limited by numbers. Your Society could be a small group of friends or colleagues, or an entire neighborhood of women. It is by coming together as friends that we can begin to make a big difference in other women's lives.
Have fun, make friends, network, and by all means give back!
